Gold and leaderboards

The hub keeps score in gold. Leaderboards line the ceiling and the far wall, and the game counts what you do while you play. There are two kinds: the gold you earn, and the gold your group earns together. If you are competitive, this page is for you. If you are not, nothing here changes how the game plays. Gold is a bonus on top, never a gate.

Points are now called gold. Nothing was converted and nothing was lost: it is the same total under a new name. The values below are not set in stone. We will tweak them as we watch real evenings, and totals may still be reset before release, so do not treat a total as permanent.
The hub with leaderboards on the ceiling panels: Top Creators, Longest Supporters, Most Time in Game, Upcoming Events, and a countdown to the next event on the far wall

The boards in the hub

BoardWhat it ranks
Gold LeadersGold you earned this month, with your lifetime total underneath. Spending gold never lowers your place
Top GroupsGold a group earned together this month, with its member count and lifetime total
Most Time in GameActive hours this month. Idle time does not count
Top CreatorsHours other players spent inside your worlds
Longest SupportersWho has been a supporter the longest, oldest at the top
Top Maps and Top AvatarsWorkshop subscribers, straight from Steam
Upcoming EventsThe next scheduled events, with a live countdown to the nearest one

There is also a rotating board near the floor that pages through every list on its own, with Back and Next buttons. It is yours alone. Pressing Next changes only what you see, so nobody can take over the board someone else is reading. Point the laser at a button in VR, or look at it and press E on desktop. Rows with a world behind them can be pressed to travel there.

Your gold

Your own gold comes from playing normally. There is nothing to activate and nothing to grind. Small things add up over an evening, and a handful of bigger one-time bonuses sit on top. The table is deliberately general, because every number in it will move.

Group gold

Groups earn gold of their own, on top of the gold each member earns. It takes nothing away from anyone's personal total, so playing with your group earns both at once.

  • Play together. A group earns gold for the minutes two or more of its members spend in the same world at the same time, about one gold a minute for each member there. Hub rooms count too.
  • Active minutes only. The same idle rule as your own gold applies. A member who has gone idle adds nothing.
  • Daily limits. Each member can only add so many minutes to a group per day, and each group has a daily cap, so one very long session cannot run away with the board.
  • Monthly board. Top Groups ranks the gold a group earned this month, and the month starts fresh on the first. The lifetime total stays on the group page in the menu.

The rules behind the numbers

  • Counted nightly. The game keeps a simple tally while you play and the totals, yours and your group's, are worked out once a day on our side. Board positions update the next morning, not the same second.
  • Idle earns nothing. Standing still in an empty world for six hours is worth zero. Every minute has to be an active minute, and most things have a daily cap.
  • Creator bonuses wait a week. An approved upload pays out after it has stayed approved for seven days, two per creator per month. A map that gets pulled pays nothing, and we can hold back the bonus on approval if something looks like spam.
  • Polls pay once. Your first vote on a community poll earns a small bonus, in the hub or on the website. Changing your vote does not pay again, and a vote an admin removes takes the bonus with it.
  • Abuse gets removed. Gold can be taken away, and a banned account drops off every board.
  • Opting out works everywhere. If you have hidden yourself from the hub boards, that covers the gold boards too.

Where your gold shows

A pop-up tells you when gold lands, with your new total. Your place is on the Gold Leaders board, and your group gold is on the group page in the menu and on the Top Groups board. If you would like to see it somewhere else, tell us on Discord. The same goes for the values above: if something feels too cheap or too rich after a few evenings, say so.

What is coming

The next step is spending. A small store of identity items, things like head plates and nameplate looks, priced in gold, is being set up in the new menu. Prices are not final. When it opens it will be announced on the Updates page first. The boards rank the gold you earn, not what you have left, so spending never costs you a place.
